In 1879 a blended whisky in a black bottle (hence the whisky’s name Black Bottle) was launched with quite a strong focus on peated whisky from Islay changed in 1914 with the onset of the First World War due to the iconic black bottle being a German design, which was quickly changed to a dark green. In 2013, owners Burn Stewart decided that the bottle should return to its roots with less of a focus on Islay (still made up of a proportion of malt whisky from each distillery on Islay) and the return of the iconic black bottle.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Oak and cut grass and very subtle smoke, dark dried fruits.
