The distillery, with its worm tub condensors, is known for its meaty character, and the 17-year-old is sweetly meaty, sherried, fruity, spicy and slightly smoky.
Nose: Apfel Strudel with a light dusting of icing sugar, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, Pedro Ximenez sherry and sweet liqorice.
Palate: Caigellachie at its very finest – viscous, syrupy, a raisin rumtopf coated with 70% Belgian chocolate, allspice and clove.
Finish: Never ending!
