The original Three Crowns was introduced way back in 1830’s and lasted around 100 years before being discontinued. Many bottles are still in circulation and the original style of the whiskey was similar to Dunville’s VR. While the Three Crowns uses more sherry casks for the maturation.
It’s a blended whiskey made up of 4-year-old grain, 10-year-old malt and 15-year-old malt finished in Oloroso casks.
Tasting notes:
Gentle, floral, sweet and juicy aromas appear on the nose with the palate experiencing an initial sweetness from the malt that gives way to light citrus fruits, orange, lemon, green apples, pepper and cloves and a hint of peat. Orchard fruits and caramels give way as subtle notes of walnut, nougat, vanilla and dried fruits come though in the soft lingering finish.
