The whisky is aged for a full 12 years in a combination of traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels and seasoned Spanish Oloroso sherry butts. The spirits from both casks are then expertly married together to balance crisp citrus tones with deep, sweet fruitiness.
Founded in 1879 by James Fleming, the Aberlour Distillery relies on local barley and the soft water of the Birkenbush Springs.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Soft and rounded with dominant aromas of red apple, cinnamon toast, rich honey, vanilla, and a distinct festive, spiced warmth reminiscent of Christmas.
Palate: A deeply rich and syrupy mouthfeel featuring sherried dark fruits, milk chocolate, toffee, brown sugar, nutmeg, and subtle ginger spice.
Medium to long, sweet, and warming finish, leaving lingering notes of spicy oak, chocolate cherries, and a touch of barrel char.
