Description
Brand: Bowmore
Category: Whisky
Type: Single Malt
Region: Scotland – Islay
Strength: 40% alc/vol
Unlike many neighboring Islay distilleries that produce intensely heavy, medicinal, and peat-forward spirits, Bowmore 12 is celebrated for its restraint and gentle balance, serving as an ideal ”bridge” or introduction into the world of peated whisky. It typically sits at 40% ABV and is matured in a vatting of both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Fresh citrus notes dominated by orange peel and lemon zest, interwoven with sweet vanilla, acacia honey, and a soft, gentle wave of coastal heather smoke.
Palate: Decently creamy and oily mouthfeel. Initial flavors of warm honey, sweet malt, and dark peat give way to a distinct maritime salinity—often described as a salty sea breeze or a tingle on the sides of the tongue.
Medium to long finish, warming, and slightly drying, leaving behind lingering citrus oils, subtle ash, and a touch of dark chocolate bitterness.
